The Mexican low-cost airline Interjet has taken delivery of its first A320 from Airbus.
Interjet started operations in December 2005, with a fleet of seven pre-owned A320s acquired in Europe. Since then, Interjet has placed orders for a total of 20 A320s.
The brand-new A320 delivered today will accommodate 150 passengers in a comfortable single-class configuration. The aircraft is equipped with CFM56-5B4/P engines from CFM International.
Interjet’s new A320 features the all-new cabin that recently entered service on other members of the A320 Family, which provides more passenger comfort in a modern and bright environment.
Interjet will add the new A320 on its domestic network operating out of Toluca airport (next to Mexico City).
„The A320 is without a doubt the reference in the low cost market. It ideally combines unmatched operating costs with the highest level of passenger comfort“ says Miguel Alemàn, Chairman of Interjet. „It allows us to operate the low-fares and high efficiency concept in the Mexican air transport industry whilst preserving the highest standards of service quality and safety for travellers on domestic routes in Mexico.“
„We are pleased to see the rapid expansion of Interjet on the Mexican domestic low-cost market“ says John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers, „With this brand-new A320 featuring the new cabin, Interjet’s passengers will experience an even higher level of comfort.“
The A320 „Family“ also includes the A318, A319 and A321. The A320 Family’s optimised cabin cross-section – the widest single-aisle fuselage on the market – sets the standard for passenger cabin flexibility in this segment. It allows for top-of-the-range comfort with wider seats and aisles, or an extra-wide aisle for the fast turnarounds that are essential in the low-cost markets.
The new design of the cabin, as the latest A320 innovation, gives up to 15 per cent more useable overhead stowage volume and a measurable noise reduction in the cabin, combined with state of the art design features. Furthermore, the new cabin is lighter in weight, making the aircraft even more fuel efficient; a benefit in terms of operational costs and environmental progress.
The A320 Family’s impressive level of dispatch reliability further enhances profitability and passenger service. In addition, the A320 Family is an environmentally responsible neighbour, offering the lowest fuel burn, emissions and noise footprints in its class.
With more than 5,000 aircraft ordered and more than 3,000 delivered to approximately 200 customers and operators, the A320 Family is the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft family.
