Red Bull Air Race 2010 flying over the Tagus

Lisboa Red Bull Air Race 2010 will have the Tagus River as its backdrop, between the 25th April Bridge and Belem Tower, during the first week of September, ensuring the event’s continuation in Portugal.

Lisbon – The organisation of the most important and prestigious air show of its kind, to be held where the Tagus flows between Lisboa and Oeiras, is the result of the relevant authorities being contacted by Red Bull Air Race. With this aim in mind, Lisboa Tourism Association (ATL) has already signed a contract with Red Bull Air Race for hosting the event in 2010. This is an important event of interantional appeal, that will ensure considerable tourism and promtion for the destination, namely through international television coverage with the presence of many foreign journalists.

This event forms part of a strategy to attract major events, that are a fundamental factor in the promotion of Lisboa as a tourism destination, this being ATL’s prime role.
The event’s organisation counts on the support of Lisboa City Council and Oerias City Council, with details being finalised for the signing a joint protocol. As part of the contract agreement, with regard to 2010 only, contemplates a payment of 3.5 million euros to the organisation. ATL plans to enrol this event as candidate to one of the Portugal Tourism support programs, in the hope of receiving an identical amount attributed to the organisation of the event last year held in Portugal. At the same time, a market survey is being held designed to attract sponsorhip from companies and brands, with a view to taking advantage of the event’s media attraction and image promotion.
