New 10GbE Centellis 4100 and latest release of Centellis 3000 can increase common platform benefits with enhanced processor capability to support an extended range of applications

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced the latest additions to its portfolio of pre-integrated and validated AdvancedTCA® (ATCA®) communications servers. Motorola’s new CentellisTM 4100 10GbE platform adds the ability to address a broader range of data plane applications and release 3.2 of the Centellis 3000 series delivers increased processing and memory capabilities compared to previous generation Motorola communications servers.

The Centellis 4100 communications server platform is the first product in the Centellis 4000 family and is specifically designed to address the requirements of the next generation of telecommunications industry applications with 10Gbps Ethernet switching technology. The Centellis 4100 can enable network equipment providers (NEPs) to offer applications that require high bandwidth interconnect, such as data plane infrastructure in wireless broadband, 4G wireless, WiMAX and IPTV Networks, on a standards-based common platform. By extending the range of applications that communications servers can address, the Centellis 4100 helps NEPs to accelerate service providers’ migration to a standards-based carrier-grade common platform for their product portfolio.

Release 3.2 of Motorola’s Centellis 3000 series communications servers substantially increases processing performance compared to previous generation Motorola communications servers. Customers can take advantage of the latest high performance Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® 5100 Series processors on Motorola’s new ATCA-7140 blade, and can also choose to increase memory on the company’s existing ATCA-7221 dual Intel® Xeon® processor LV server blade to 16GB. These enhancements are designed to improve performance, flexibility and scalability and will help improve NEPs‘ ability to deploy network infrastructure for applications such as IMS, IPTV and wireless broadband on their standards-based common platforms. The HPI-B management interface from the Service AvailabilityTM Forum also is included to enable easier customer application integration onto next generation platforms.

“OKI is delighted that Motorola has released its latest version of Centellis 3000 and 4000 Series ATCA communications servers,” said Masasuke Kishi, executive officer of Network Systems Company at Oki Electric Industry. “OKI has already adopted Motorola’s Centellis 3000 ATCA communications server as a platform of our Session Border Controller CenterStage® NX3200. We will continue to adopt Motorola’s platform, which assures carrier-grade reliability by integrating Carrier Grade Linux distribution, comprehensive centralized platform management and high-availability fabric management in an SA Forum compliant platform. We look forward to adding value to our products using this latest version of the platform.”

“Motorola continues to add features, functionality and performance to our portfolio of fully integrated and validated ATCA communications servers,” said Ross Armstrong, director of ATCA marketing, Embedded Communications Computing, Motorola, Inc. “By adding these two latest product solutions, Motorola’s ATCA-based communications servers span the broadest range of control and data plane applications in the industry.”

Motorola’s Centellis 4100 and the Centellis 3000 Series Release 3.2 will debut at NXTcomm 2007, from June 18-21, 2007 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill. Motorola also will showcase its line-up of market-leading AdvancedTCA, MicroTCA and AMC products during the event.

Centellis 4000 Series Communications Servers
At the heart of the Centellis 4000 series communications servers are a carrier-grade ATCA shelf and Motorola’s ATCA-F120 system controller and switching blade. The shelf includes a shelf-manager and alarm modules, power-entry modules and fan tray modules, all of which are fully redundant.

The ATCA-F120 delivers full 10Gbps fabric connection to all payload slots and 10Gbps uplinks. It can enable higher platform density via two advanced mezzanine card (AMC) slots that can be configured with a processor and storage module combination to implement a shelf controller function, thus saving two valuable payload slots.

The ATCA-C121 quad AdvancedMC carrier features local processing power, telecom clock and ATCA update channel support (including the ability to host a clock generation and synchronization module) and 10GbE fabric connectivity.

Centellis 3000 Series Communications Servers
The Centellis 3000 series of communications servers is optimized for control plane and IMS applications based on proprietary high-availability software. This product series integrates AdvancedTCA hardware, with an operating environment that includes the MontaVista Carrier Grade Linux operating system, SA Forum Hardware Platform Interface (HPI) Specification implementation, comprehensive centralized platform hardware management, high-availability fabric management and high-availability link support. Motorola also verifies thermal, power and mechanical operation to provide a proven platform, on which communications equipment manufacturers can rapidly deploy their software environments and applications with confidence.
