For the first time, the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) will host their annual International Destination Expo (IDE) on the African continent. ASTA is the world’s largest association of travel professionals. Members include travel agents and the companies whose products they sell such as tours, cruises, hotels, car rentals, etc.
A recent survey of ASTA members found that there has been a steady shift in both the size and location of travel agencies in recent years.
Today, ASTA released the results of its 2008 Global Distribution System (GDS) Report. The study found that while GDS usage has declined in the past nine years, the vast majority of agencies still use a GDS system.
