Bad Salzuflen/Germany. The International Conference of Foreign Ministers on Iraq’s security took place from 3rd to 4th May, 2007, at the new Maritim Sharm El Sheikh International Congress Center which has been operated by the German Maritim Hotel Company since April 2007.

Maritim Hotels, experts at organizing and operating large congresses and events, could thus prove their skills right at the start of their presence in Egypt. More than 60 states and delegations of international organizations had sent their high ranking officials to the conference. Among them were US Foreign Minister Condoleezza Rice, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the Prime Minister of Iraq, Al Maliki, the Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki and the President of the Arabian League, Amr Moussa.

Most of the official guests stayed at the neighbouring freshly opened Maritim Royal Peninsula Hotel & Resort, such as The Foreign Ministers of Great Britain and of the Peoples Republic of China, Magaret Becket and Yang Jiechi, and Javier Solana, Secretary General of the European Council and High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy.

The Maritim Sharm El Sheikh International Congress Center offers the most modern conference facilities in the area and thus lends itself to large international conventions.  It comprises of one large hall for up to 2,000 People and eleven meeting rooms with sizes of 140 to 800 square metres which are partly combinable. Six further VIP meeting rooms are also available. The congress centre is equipped with the latest in conference technology including translation booths, modern filming facilities and an elaborate lighting system. For large receptions the lobby and restaurant can be used.

The neighbouring Maritim Royal Peninsula Hotel & Resort consists of 17 bungalow style buildings incorporating 337 rooms and suites, which, if required, can be combined to form 24 large suites. Thus the luxury hotel is able to offer suitable accommodation for government delegations and large families. Three restaurants, three bars, a health spa and a variety of sports facilities are at the guest’s disposal.

With presently 47 hotels, Maritim Hotelgesellschaft is ranked among the leading German hotel chains. Ten of the hotels are abroad in Belek, Marmaris and Alanya (all Turkey), Djerba and Yasmine Hammamet (Tunisia), Egypt, Malta, Mauritius, Riga (Latvia) and Tenerife.
