Insure U, the consumer–education initiative from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) aimed at helping consumers ‘Get Smart About Insurance,’ is a winner of the Award of Excellence in the 2007 Associations Advance America Awards program. The national competition is sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the Center for Association Leadership.

The NAIC and its Insure U program are now in the running to receive a Summit Award, the top recognition for association programs given by the ASAE.

“This prestigious award is a direct result of Insure U’s success in providing an important, educational outlet to insurance consumers across the United States,” said NAIC Executive Vice President and CEO Catherine J. Weatherford. “It is our goal as an association to foster and enhance consumer protection through state–based insurance regulation. The Insure U initiative is a catalyst in making that happen. It is a comprehensive tool for consumers to learn more about the insurance issues they face in each stage of their lives.”

Now in its 17th year, the Associations Advance America Awards program recognizes associations that propel America forward — with innovative projects in education, skills training, standards setting, business and social aspects, knowledge creation, citizenship and community service. Although association activities have a powerful impact on everyday life, they often go unnoticed by the general public.

“The NAIC’s Insure U program truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign,” said Charles A. McGrath, Associations Advance America Committee Chair and managing partner, client services at Bostrom Corporation. “It is an honor and an inspiration to showcase this activity as an example of the many contributions associations are making to advance American society.”
