At the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers Cable-Tec Expo (Orlando Convention Center), Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) will showcase the company’s portfolio of network solutions designed to enable media mobilization for cable service providers.
By boosting bandwidth through the cable infrastructure and offering advanced, digital services, Motorola is helping cable companies connect consumers to the content that is most important to them, thereby helping to drive new revenue streams and increase customer loyalty.
As consumer appetites grow for video-on-demand (VOD), high-definition (HD) programming and converged services, service providers must increase bandwidth capacity while still leveraging existing investments. Adding to its suite of bandwidth-expansion solutions, Motorola is introducing a new high-density, downstream module for the Broadband Services Router BSR 64000, and Enhanced Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (E-CWDM) technology for transmitting multiple optical signals over an existing fiber. These solutions, combined with other channel bonding, switched digital and deep-fiber technologies, will help drive greater cable network performance for next-generation service offerings.
“Motorola’s solutions help enable richer consumer experiences by increasing broadband speeds and mobilizing applications and services in brand new ways,” said Dan Moloney, president, Motorola Home and Networks Mobility. “Advanced services, converged networks and, most importantly, mobility enabled by greater bandwidth are the keys to new revenue opportunities and continued competitive advantage for our cable operator customers.”
In addition to bandwidth-expansion technologies at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, stand #1378, Motorola will showcase many next-generation consumer entertainment applications working alongside the company’s current, tried-and-true digital cable solutions. These applications, like Follow Me TV and Caller ID on the TV, are designed to help enhance consumer experiences and personalize the way consumers access information, entertainment and communications services.
Motorola is also unveiling the new APEX (All Purpose Edge QAM) platform. The Motorola APEX platform, a high-density universal 1 GHz edge QAM solution, can help providers efficiently allocate bandwidth as they deploy switched digital (SDV) and modular CMTS network architectures, and expand their video-on-demand and high-speed data offerings to subscribers. The APEX platform supports standards based video and high speed data interfaces, while the physical chassis offers field swappable QAM modules and redundant swappable power supplies in a cost-effective, low power package.
Highlights from Motorola at SCTE include:
Motorola Tx32 decoupled downstream module. The new high-density module supports DOCSIS 3.0 channel bonding and installs in the current Motorola Broadband Services Router BSR 64000. It supports both new DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems as well as legacy equipment.
Motorola E-CWDM technology helps increase downstream service delivery over cable networks by transmitting multiple CWDM optical signals over an existing fiber, enabling operators to segment their serving areas three, four, or five times. Each optical signal carries a full 1 GHz loading of broadcast and narrowcast content, over distances up to 25 kilometers between the hub and optical node.
Motorola eCare 5.0 is a web-enabled interactive support solution allowing technical support staff to reach out over the Internet and help resolve customers’ problems through the end-user’s desktop
Motorola Integrated Switched Digital Video & Video on Demand (VOD). WideOpenWest has selected the Motorola B-1TM Video Server to help supply VOD to customers in the Detroit, Chicago, Columbus and Cleveland, OH markets.
In addition to the technology displays, Dan Moloney, President, Motorola Home and Networks Mobility will give the opening general session Wednesday, June 20th, 9:30-10:30am. Mike Cookish, Director, Product Management, will also participate in a panel discussion, DOCSIS 3.0 Technologies & Services Thursday, June 21 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
