Swissport International, the world’s leading aviation services group, has concluded an agreement with easyJet that will extend the partners’ collaboration at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg for a further five years.
Basel – The new accord covers the provision of ground services at Basel from 2007 to 2012.
The new agreement ensures that Swissport will continue to provide ground handling services for easyJet’s Basel-based network of around 150 flights a week. The airline, which is Europe’s leading low-fare airline, has undergone massive expansion over the past few years, and has developed Basel into a base operation with over 20 flights a day to 18 destinations.
“Working with Swissport has been a very positive experience so far,” says Jean-Marc Thévenaz, easyJet’s Managing Director Switzerland. “And it’s our favourable collaboration to date – in Basel and Geneva and at other European locations – that has encouraged us to continue to put our faith in Swissport quality by extending our present Basel agreement.”
Stefan Resele, Senior Vice President Swissport Basel, is equally pleased: “I am delighted that, with our impeccable value-for-money services, we have earned easyJet’s continued custom. Our new agreement enables us to secure a significant volume of business, along with the associated jobs.”
Low fares airlines remain extremely popular with customers, as is evidenced by the above-average growth rates that the sector continues to record. Present estimates suggest that one-third of all passengers in Europe will be travelling on a low-fare airline by 2010.
Swissport maintains excellent business relations with the low-fare segment, and currently provides ground handling for easyJet and its flights at six stations in four European countries.
Swissport International Ltd., which is owned by Ferrovial, a leading European infrastructure and service corporation based in Spain, provides ground services for over 70 million passengers and 3.2 million tonnes of cargo a year on behalf of some 650 client companies.
