Motorola Breaks the $2,000 Price Barrier with New Dual Core AdvancedMC Module

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today launched the PrAMC-7210, an Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) that can provide up to twice the processing capability compared to previous generation modules, for a volume price of under $2,000.

The PrAMC-7210 is designed to provide the best price/performance ratio for a wide range of demanding, low-power embedded telecom applications. Other target markets include network-centric warfare, digital security surveillance, medical imaging and industrial automation.

The PrAMC-7210 is a full-size AMC based on based on the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor core and Intel 3100 server-class chipset. With up to 4GB double data rate (DDR2) SDRAM with error checking and correcting (ECC) running at 400 MHz and on board flash disk, the PrAMC-7210 is designed for high performance as well as reliable operation and storage.

One x8 lane PCI Express link supports auto-negotiation to lower lane-widths and port bifurcation. Combined with two Gigabit Ethernet links, these standard interfaces enable developers to interface to a wide variety of high performance modules as required by their applications. Two SATA links enable high-speed serial communication with hard disks drives for flexible storage configurations.

This latest addition to Motorola’s embedded communications computing portfolio is a cost-effective plug-in solution for MicroTCA™ and AdvancedTCA® systems and has already been verified in Motorola’s Centellis™ 1000 series MicroTCA communications server. A mid-size version, the PrAMC-7211, is also available. Mid-size modules are more suited to use in ATCA environments.

“By using the latest Intel dual core processor on our new AMC and pricing it aggressively, we are showing our commitment to drive down the costs of MicroTCA technology,” said Paul Virgo, director of MicroTCA marketing, Embedded Communications Computing, Motorola. “Delivering MicroTCA technology at an affordable price point will help attract new customers and spur market growth.”

The PrAMC-7210 and 7211 are available with either MontaVista Carrier Grade Linux or Wind River Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition as required by different applications.

The first PrAMC-7210 modules are expected to become available in the third quarter of 2007 with a competitive price of under $2, 000 (USD) for volume orders.

The PrAMC-7210 will be part of Motorola’s showcase of market-leading AdvancedTCA, MicroTCA and AMC products at the MicroTCA Summit, to be held May 30 – June 1 at the Sheraton Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland.
