Zum 8. Mal in Folge an der Spitze im weltweiten Servermarkt nach Umsatz / Spitzenpositionen bei Mainframes, Blade und UNIX-Systemen
Nach den kürzlich veröffentlichten Marktzahlen des Marktforschungsunternehmens Gartner konnte IBM [NYSE: IBM] seine Spitzenposition im weltweiten Servermarkt nach Umsatz mit einem Marktanteil von 32 Prozent in 2006 behaupten. [1] Nach Gartner konnte IBM damit seinen Marktanteil bei Servern nach Umsatz zum 8. Mal in Folge halten.
Die IBM Führungsposition im weltweiten Servermarkt nach Umsatz wurde 2006 durch nennenswerte Umsatzzuwächse bei den System z-Großrechnersystemen unterstützt.
2006 hat IBM den System z Business Class-Großrechner eingeführt und mit Unternehmen wie Oracle und SAP zusammengearbeitet, um Innovationen auf der Plattform voranzutreiben. Gleichzeitig konnte die Kundenbasis ausgebaut werden. Außerdem wurden durch die Einführung von speziellen Prozessoren für Linux und Java neue Workloads auf die Plattform portiert.
„Großrechner sind für unsere Kunden von enormer Bedeutung. Wir glauben, dass die Markteinführung des System z Business Class- Großrechner im vergangenen Jahr, die Investition von 100 Millionen Dollar in die Vereinfachung der Plattform und die Zunahme von Workloads, die durch die Einführung von speziellen Prozessoren für Linux und Java Workloads vorangetrieben wurde, wesentlich dazu beigetragen haben, dass die System z-Plattform für unsere Kunden zu einer sehr effektiven Plattform geworden ist“,erklärt Bill Zeitler, Senior Vice President der Systems and Technology Group.
IBM konnte seine Umsatzentwicklung auch im System x Geschäft (x86-Plattform), zu dem auch das IBM BladeCenter-System zählt, um sieben Prozent im Jahresvergleich steigern. [3] Nach Gartner führte IBM den Marktanteil bei den Blade-Systemen mit 41.1 Prozent nach Umsatz 2006 an [4]. IBM konnte ebenfalls seinen Marktanteil bei den UNIX-Servern mit 30.1 Prozent nach Serverumsätzen behaupten [5].

IBM Maintains Leadership on Blade and UNIX Servers
Armonk, NY – 23 Feb 2007: Gartner reported that IBM (NYSE: IBM) continues to hold the number one position in worldwide server revenue share, with 32 percent revenue share for 2006. [1] IBM has held this leadership in worldwide server revenue share for 8 consecutive years according to Gartner.
IBM’s leadership position in global server revenue in 2006 was bolstered by noteworthy revenue growth in its System z business. [2]
In 2006 IBM introduced the System z™ Business Class mainframe, teamed with industry leaders such as Oracle and SAP to drive innovation on the platform, and extended its customer base and drove new workloads onto the platform via specialty processors for Linux® and Java™ workloads.
„Mainframes are important to our customers today. We believe the launch of the System z Business Class mainframe during the year, as well a $100 million investment to simplify the platform and the uptake of workloads driven by the launch of specialty processors for Linux and Java workloads, have made System z an extremely effective platform for our customers,“ said Bill Zeitler, senior vice president and group executive for IBM Systems & Technology Group.
IBM also grew revenue with its System x business, which includes IBM BladeCenter® system, by 7 percent YTY in 2006. [3] According to Gartner, IBM led the year with 41.1 percent of revenue share for blades in 2006. [4] In 2006 IBM introduced two new high performance BladeCenter systems, BladeCenter H and BladeCenter HT, which allow data to travel up to 10 times faster than previously possible across corporate networks with 1Gb equipment.
IBM also maintained its leadership in UNIX® servers with 30.1 percent server revenue share in 2006. [5]
