Iberia and IE Business School Sign Cooperation Agreement

IE Business School will highlight “Iberia Case” as example of successful adaptation to change.

Madrid – The IE Business School and Iberia Airlines have signed a framework cooperation agreement under which the management school will include in its curriculum a study of the „Iberia case“ as an example of a company that successfully anticipated and adapted to major changes in its industry.

The successful manner in which the Spanish flag-carrier, formerly a protected state monopoly, addressed privatisation, deregulation, and competition, in the midst of one of the most difficult period ever experienced by the airline business worldwide, has been widely recognised. In addition, Iberia’s accurate forecasts and policies have made it the only network airline to post profits for each of the past 12 years.

The multidisciplinary study of Iberia’s achievement will focus on the company’s strategy, but will also examine other areas such as sales, corporate strategy, maintenance, human resources, operations, and corporate social responsibility (CSR), among others.

In addition to the Iberia case study, the agreement encompasses training, research, and publication activities. It was signed by Iberia’s chairman, Fernando Conte, and the president of the IE, Diego del Alcázar.

The IE Business School focuses on executive management training, and via this agreement it will consider the possibilities of designing training programmes and carrying out studies of strategic interest to both parties. In addition, and in cooperation with Iberia, it may organise forums, seminars or lecture series that help to promote R&D and innovation carried out by the IE’s research centre and executive education division.

This project arises from the interests of the two companies in enhancing and broadening the training and development of managers. Fernando Conte said that „the fact that an institution with the prestige of IE should use Iberia as a business case study is a recognition of a job well done by the Iberia team and a stimulus to remain among the best companies in the industry.“ Diego del Alcázar said that „Specific cooperation with Iberia will strengthen the leadership of the two companies, and ushers in a new era of relations, which will enable us to increase the synergies that exist between the two companies in the global context that they share as international companies.“
